-The 49th Nogyo-sai Nishikigoi Show as part of National Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Festival-
Nogyo-sai

The 49th Nogyo-sai Nishikigoi Show was held on Saturday October 31st and Sunday November 1st at Ojiya City General Gymnasium.

It unfortunately started raining in the late afternoon, however, 702 exhibited Nishikigoi were adding brightness at the site.

Both Dainichi Koi Farm and Isa Koi Farm entered Nishikigoi that are mature and have stately looks. These entries were more remarked than other younger Nishikigoi in the show. The Kohaku and Showa had a close contest for the Grand Champion. The Kohaku gained just one vote ahead of the Showa, as a result, the coveted Grand Champion was taken by the Kohaku, owned by Dainichi Koi Farm.

We’d like to congratulate Mr. Mano from Dainichi Koi Farm for achieving the deserved honor.

This Kohaku has simple two-stepped pattern, a fine body shape, and high quality. The Nishikigoi also exhibits beautiful glossy skin on its entire body.

This 7-year-old female Nishikigoi grows into the size of 83cm and it will be developing its quality until at least next 3 years. It is one of our purposes that is creating Nishikigoi which keep their high quality for long time, therefore, we assure that this Nishikigoi will provide appreciation for the beauty to Nishikigoi lovers for long time.

My father sold 3-year-old Kohaku to Kachi Koi Farm in Fukui Prefecutre ages ago, and the Kohaku turned into a beautiful Nishikigoi. My father was obsessed by the beautiful Kohaku so that he asked the Koi Farm to give back the Kohaku. Fortunately, my father obtained the Kohaku again, and he used the Nishikigoi as oyagoi, which was named Marin. We are very grateful that the offspring of Marin, the Nishikigoi that my father felt in love with, received the Overall First Prize at Nogyosai.

[Commentary]

To be honest, this is an old Nishikigoi. We have used this Nishikigoi as oyagoi for 7 years. Even though this female Isa Showa, which sizes 90 cm, is becoming 13 years old in this year, it gives us impression that this Nishikigoi becomes younger every year by its glossy skin and good conformation.

This Isa Showa is our treasure because it is inhabited from Show, which founded the Isa Showa’s lineage. This Showa’s offspring has already well known as high quality Isa Showa. Thus, we suppose that this is the last time to enter any Nishikigoi Show with this Showa.

This Nishikigoi has ability of maintaining its beauty and its offspring inherits the ability as well. The retention is not noticeable at a glance, however, we have put our efforts on developing it on our Nishikigoi.

We will try our best to improve the quality of Nishikigoi with this Showa and its offspring.
