The
27th All Japan Combined Young Nishikigoi Show |
The 27th All Japan Combined Young Nishikigoi Show had a new venue, and earlier date, than recent shows. This years event was held at Sun Messe in Tosu, Saga Prefecture, Kyushu, from 28th to 29th March.
This year saw another increase in young Nishikigoi,
those under 63cm (24.80in), at the show, a total of 1,815 being
exhibited. Of these 407 were exhibited by overseas visitors, many
figuring highly in the overall prizes. The breeders of Niigata
had also sent a number of Nishikigoi on the long journey down to
Kyushu.
Visitors numbers seemed a little lower than in the previous 2 years in Ojiya although the number of foreign visitors making the trip from Europe, U.S.A., and Asia seemed quite high.
The grand champion prize was taken by a nisai
Kohaku bred by Sakai Hiroshima Fish Farm and owned by Mitsuzou
Kaneko from Nagano Prefecture.

This sandan Kohaku has a very good body. It has an extremely nice head which is both long and broad and its proportions compliment the body.
The skin quality is beautiful. Despite its young age good thick fukurin is already apparent.
The Koi has attractive thick beni with sharp kiwa and tight sashi.

This Showa has an attractive stout thick set body. Whilst perhaps not ideal for growing to jumbo size in the future it is ideal now for showing.
The Koi has an attractive base Kohaku pattern with quality beni.
The sumi placement and pattern is excellent. The sumi quality is very good with lots of opportunity for development in store.
